Andy was sick with a nasty cold. We weren't sure if he'd be up for our trip, but he toughed it out. We left Tuesday morning. Andy was so smart to put the boys together in the back seat. They sat very well together. They watched a movie and played with Abe's new sticker book from his birthday that the boys enjoy. It was such a great idea from Andy to have Eli in the back, so the bigger boys could play together easily and I could be closer to all 3 boys to help keep everyone happy.
I sat next to Simon. He is such an angel! He was happy and quiet most of the trip. He even took a nap!
Tuesday afternoon we arrived in Chicago and easily found the Museum of Science and Industry. We were able to get basic admission for free using our science pass for our science center in town. (Awesome!!) The first thing the boys saw as we walked in the museum was a train. The boys were thrilled!
We debated which stroller (from our vast collection) to bring on this trip. We decided to bring our fancy sit and stand stroller. It was perfect! Simon was able to sit in the front and look around. We weren't sure if he was quite big and strong enough to sit like that for so long, but he didn't have any trouble at all. We even strapped some toys to his little harness to keep him occupied. Abe and Eli were able to take turns riding in the back.
One of the exhibits is all about farming. The boys climbed in a tractor and learned how to milk a cow.
There was a whimsical circus area.
The submarine was incredible! It makes me wish I knew more about world history.
We all really liked the space area too.
There were lots of model ships. It reminded me how much I liked working on a boat all those years ago.
There were some really cool, really old cars to look at.
Good ol' Simon took a great nap. What a champ!
There was a huge area all about science and weather.
Eli wasn't crazy about the 80 mph wind.
There were airplanes and trains all over the place.
They even have a United airplane that you can walk through and see how everything works.
Fun science experiments.
They have an amazing section all about bodies with cadavers and some incredible dissections. It made me realize that I can't remember anything from the days when I was an anatomy TA. Sad day. It was still awesome to get a reminder of how remarkable the human body is.
It looks like Eli is rocking out to some music here. That boy loves to dance!
This museum rocked! The boys were engaged the whole time and found lots of new interesting things to explore. It was one cool thing to another. I'm glad we went!
We found our hotel with no problem at all and checked in. It was perfect because it had free parking and the restaurant in the hotel was a pizza place. We were excited to try a Chicago deep dish pizza for the first time. We loved the cheese and the sauce, but the crust of this particular pizza was a little disappointing. If we go back to Chicago, and I hope that we do, we'll have to find a more reputable pizza place and see if the crust is any better.
Our hotel also had a pool. Promising Abe to go swimming was the only way to get him to use the public restroom at the museum... Silly boy! The pool was pretty cold, but the boys insisted that we got in anyways. We only lasted about 30 minutes, which was good because Simon had a little melt down with Andy. (This was the only time the whole trip that Simon gave us any difficulty.)
It was a wonderful day! We were all exhausted and went to bed early.
